School Year Programs

Our basketball programs help children build confidence on and off the court. Through fun and engaging sessions, meaningful relationships with peers and coaches, and activities for all skill levels, participants develop basketball skills and strengthen resilience, physical literacy, and lifelong healthy habits.

Summer Camp

Our full-day Summer Camp includes basketball skill development, fun and educational off-court activities, exciting field trips, and themed days that inspire creativity, confidence, belonging, and lasting memories – all in a safe, supportive environment.

Off-Court Programs

Our off-court programs use the game of basketball as an engaging way to teach STEM, literacy, creativity, and other real-world skills. Children learn, explore, and connect in a supportive environment where education comes to life through sport.

Sky High (Girls Only)

Sky High provides girls with a welcoming, girls-only environment where they can build basketball skills, confidence, friendships, and leadership. Through basketball, participants develop physical literacy, social-emotional skills, and healthy habits while feeling supported to be themselves.

House League

Our 8-week House League gives participants the opportunity to play exciting 3x3 games and learn through engaging off-court workshops that build life skills beyond basketball. Through fast-paced team play, players learn to think on their feet, work together, adapt to new situations, and make confident decisions – all while having fun and developing their game.

City-Wide 3x3 Tournament

Our annual City-Wide 3x3 Tournament is the biggest event of the year, bringing together participants from communities across Toronto for a celebration of basketball, teamwork, and connection. Participants compete in exciting games, enjoy interactive off-court activations, and experience a fun-filled day that builds confidence, friendships, and unforgettable memories.

How Registration Works‍

Lay-Up registration is not first-come, first-served. Submitting a registration earlier does not guarantee a spot, and meeting one or more of the criteria does not guarantee a spot in the program. Registrations received after the initial registration period will be added to the waitlist.

Submit Your Registration

Complete the registration form to express your interest in joining the program.

Registrations are reviewed based on our registration considerations to help ensure programs are inclusive, balanced, and rooted in the communities we serve. Learn more about How We Review Registrations.

What to Expect After You Fill Out the Form

If Your Child Has a Spot

A member of the Lay-Up team will contact you to confirm your child’s spot and share the next steps.

  • School-Year Programs: Families will receive a phone call to confirm registration and review important program details during the onboarding process.
  • Summer Camp: Families will receive a phone call for onboarding and attend a virtual orientation to learn more about the program and what to expect.

‍

If Your Child is Waitlisted

Families will receive an email notification if their child is placed on the waitlist.

If a spot becomes available, a member of the Lay-Up team will contact families on the waitlist by phone. While we do our best to offer available spots, we cannot guarantee that a spot will become available for your child. Spots that become available are reviewed based on the same registration considerations outlined HERE.

When opportunities come up through our community partners, we may also share relevant programs and events with families on the waitlist.

How We Review Registrations

During the initial registration period, families are invited to submit their interest to register. Once the registration period closes, registrations are carefully reviewed based on several factors.

Registration Guidelines

Once the registration period closes, registrations are carefully reviewed based on several factors below:

  • Gender Balance: We aim to maintain a balanced 50:50 representation of female and male participants at each site.
  • Household Groups: Sibling and household registrations may be considered to support family accessibility.
  • Age: We aim to maintain a balanced mix of younger participants (ages 6–11) and older participants (ages 12–14).
  • Previous Participation and Engagement: Prior involvement with Lay-Up, including attendance and engagement in our programs, is considered.
  • Neighbourhood: Participants who live in, or attend school within the communities we serve are considered during registration.
  • New Participants: We allocate approximately 2–6 spots at each site for participants joining Lay-Up for the first time.
  • Community Partner Recommendations: We work with local partners to identify youth who may particularly benefit from participating in the program.

Important Note: While these considerations help guide our registration process, demand for the program often exceeds available space. Registrations submitted during the initial registration period (see Program Calendar) will be carefully reviewed based on the criteria above.

What’s Next?

Our Crossover program is a place to get your volunteer hours and work towards being one of the Lay-Up staff!

If you are graduating from Lay-Up programs (15+ years old), and you’re interested in building new skills, working part time, and staying with the Lay-Up team, join the Crossover Program!

By 2030, Lay-Up needs to prepare 3,500 young people in Toronto to survive real-world problems.
