ABOUT THE PROJECT
The relationship between photography and basketball is a book on its own. From posters hanging on bedroom walls, to unbelievable moments of competition frozen in a still, these pictures are woven into the lives of those who love the game. Pics of tunnel fits, documentation of player backstories and imagery of the far reach of the game across international boundaries are examples that point to how integrated the camera is with the game of basketball at every level.
In 2020, when Lay-Up started building our Culture of Basketball programming to engage youth off-court, we started by building a basketball photography program.
This three-year journey is now in print and titled CULTURE OF BASKETBALL: A LAY-UP PHOTOJOURNAL and tells the story of how photography has been a vehicle to connect with youth passionate about basketball while expanding their horizons.
